Advocacy Alert: Mental Health Parity

It's Time to Celebrate! We Are Only One Step Away!
Mental Health Parity Passes in Both House and Senate.
Mental Health Parity Passes!

Connect and Be Counted!

It hard to believe that Mental Health Parity has finally passed in both the House and the Senate. But, since the House and the Senate passed their own versions of mental Health Parity, the two bills must still be merged before a vote on final passage and signature by the President. So, there is still more work for Congress to do with only a few days before its adjournment.

Mental Health Parity is legislation that will help end the discrimination in health insurance coverage between physical and mental illnesses.

The mental health community has worked diligently for six long years, and for six long years, we have faced great disappointment.  Many of you have been working with us from the beginning.  Others, just as passionate, joined us later; further strengthening our online grassroots network.

Will this legislation help all of you? Probably not. The requirements are that you must work for a company of 50 or more employees that already offers health insurance. If you do, your company will be required to provide the same level of benefits for mental illness. So, while Mental Health Parity may not help you today, it is an important step towards mental health coverage for all of us.

Let’s Say “THANK YOU!”

Many legislators have worked long and hard to make Mental Health Parity a reality. Please join us in sending them a thank you and ask them to finish the legislation before Congress adjourns.  There is a letter prepared for your use.  Go to the following link to send a letter now: http://capwiz.com/ndmda/issues/alert/?alertid=11968126

One person can make a difference.
